This is a strange concept。 I think I like it, but I definitely don't love it。 I think I need to see where it goes from this point。 It sets a stage, I would like to see where it goes。 This is a strange concept。 I think I like it, but I definitely don't love it。 I think I need to see where it goes from this point。 It sets a stage, I would like to see where it goes。 。。。more

Unusual comic collection, interesting and quite good。The premise behind this volume is that the multiverse has more or less been destroyed and a hero from five of them have arrived on the one remaking world。 They become the superheroes of the day and get involved with various struggles。 There’s good characterisation and I enjoyed the clear and detailed artwork。 The discussion of concepts and the often elaborate language didn’t work for me。 Otherwise it’s worth a look。 I received a copy in exchan Unusual comic collection, interesting and quite good。The premise behind this volume is that the multiverse has more or less been destroyed and a hero from five of them have arrived on the one remaking world。 They become the superheroes of the day and get involved with various struggles。 There’s good characterisation and I enjoyed the clear and detailed artwork。 The discussion of concepts and the often elaborate language didn’t work for me。 Otherwise it’s worth a look。 I received a copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Superhero action done by creators who want a cast that fits todays' world。 A fresh breath of air in superhero comics。Review in Dutch: https://9ekunst。nl/2021/05/30/command。。。 Superhero action done by creators who want a cast that fits todays' world。 A fresh breath of air in superhero comics。Review in Dutch: https://9ekunst。nl/2021/05/30/command。。。 。。。more

Disjointed and confusing。 It had an ok start but really went downhill quickly。 The inclusive characters were good but unfortunately that could not save the dull story。

This one has a mix of the creative and the messy。 The creative are the superheroes: all have unique superpowers and they are decently fleshed out for there being so many。 The plot gets a bit messy, though, especially in the second half。The whole idea is that there is a multiverse and every single version of Earth has collapsed except one。 All of the superheroes, except one, cone from one of those other Earths。 They were once president of the United States, in fact, defying the usual mold by not This one has a mix of the creative and the messy。 The creative are the superheroes: all have unique superpowers and they are decently fleshed out for there being so many。 The plot gets a bit messy, though, especially in the second half。The whole idea is that there is a multiverse and every single version of Earth has collapsed except one。 All of the superheroes, except one, cone from one of those other Earths。 They were once president of the United States, in fact, defying the usual mold by not only being a minority - gay, black female, Latinx, and so on - but by being young and shaped like supermodels。 But if they did fit the usual mold, they’d all be old white guys, which wouldn’t be as titillating。 The main problem with the plot is the lack of a clear villain。 Earth is on the precipice of collapse, supposedly, but what is causing this collapse? How can it be stopped? It’s not all that clear what the heroes are fighting because what they are fighting is an abstraction。 It is difficult to feel scared or worried about an abstraction。 This has some solid ideas and great execution。 The art is also terrific。 It just needs a more compelling enemy。 。。。more

I might not be the public for this one but despite some good ideas the whole is brought down by uneaven art and a disjointed storyline。

Commanders In Crisis is exactly the type of insanity that comic books are designed for。 Dimensionally displaced diverse presidents all uniting to save the world for the death of the idea of empathy? Yeah, sign me up。Steve Orlando builds a world and populates it with some brilliant heroes and Grant Morrison-esque villains within six short issues, and while I may not be able to remember everyone's name just yet, they've got a wide variety of powers and motivations that makes them feel fully-formed Commanders In Crisis is exactly the type of insanity that comic books are designed for。 Dimensionally displaced diverse presidents all uniting to save the world for the death of the idea of empathy? Yeah, sign me up。Steve Orlando builds a world and populates it with some brilliant heroes and Grant Morrison-esque villains within six short issues, and while I may not be able to remember everyone's name just yet, they've got a wide variety of powers and motivations that makes them feel fully-formed right off the bat。The storytelling manages to be both crazy high concept and down to earth at the same time thanks to the interpersonal drama between the Commanders that threatens to break them apart when they need to come together the most。 The fact that the fracturing feels important shows how invested in the characters I was right from the get-go。 Davide Tinto's artwork just sings 'superhero comics'; the colours are bright, each of the characters is well-designed and individual, and the nudity is tasteful without drawing attention to itself。 I could see Tinto on any mainstream Marvel or DC book given his work here。Commanders In Crisis is such a weird idea, but it works really well。 Orlando's plot and world building is top notch, and Tinto's artwork keeps it all grounded as the characters fall apart。 This is definitely going to be one I re-read in the future, because there's a lot to get out of it。 。。。more

COLLECTS COMMANDERS IN CRISIS ISSUES #1-6I liked the idea for this story better than the execution of the story。 I don't want to spoil, so I won't go too far into the explanation, but the superhero team in this series is made up of heroes who are each from a different Earth in the Multiverse。 COLLECTS COMMANDERS IN CRISIS ISSUES #1-6I liked the idea for this story better than the execution of the story。 I don't want to spoil, so I won't go too far into the explanation, but the superhero team in this series is made up of heroes who are each from a different Earth in the Multiverse。 。。。more
